This health science program promotes the acquisition of the foundations of a solid scientific training that will allow, after university studies related to human life, plant or animal, to understand and care for living beings or to pursue research in the field of life or health. This profile focuses on biology and chemistry. It provides access, among other things, to university studies in chemistry, medicine, dentistry, nutrition, optometry, pharmacy and physiotherapy. You can have the selected health sciences literature for this matter.
Pure and applied sciences
This program fosters the foundation of a solid scientific background that will allow teaching or research after university studies in science or engineering work after specialized studies in a faculty of applied sciences. This profile focuses on mathematics and physics. It provides access, among other things, to university studies in actuarial science, architecture, astrophysics, engineering, computer science, physics and urban planning.
Specials
The objective of the Nature Sciences program is to provide the student with a balanced education, integrating a basic scientific training (biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics) and a rigorous general education in order to make him fit to pursue university studies. Students study the world living in the field and in the laboratory (freshwater ecology, dissection, microscopy, microbiology, etc.). They are introduced to basic software and specialized software, including Maple in mathematics. They have access to modern chemistry laboratories and support centers for success in each discipline. Individual tutoring is available on request. An observatory is used by students of the astrophysics course. Microstage in the research environment is offered as part of the microbiology course.
Advantage of this organization for undecided:
Multidisciplinarity leaves a few more months to decide, for example between maths and computer science or between physics and chemistry. In addition, “the high school does not necessarily give an exact view of what can be a discipline, warns Pascal Sainrat, facilitator of the teaching commission of the faculty of sciences and engineering in Toulouse 3 Paul-Sabatier: the L1 allows to discover, for example, what are the mechanics or the electronics very little approached in terminale, but also the computer science of which the young people often have a strictly playful vision “. A subject that is less concrete than one might think and which uses many theorems and mathematical models.
- The reverse of the medal, especially for those who have a clear idea of the sector in which they want to engage: they must be aware that they will fully immerse in the heart of the subject in second year. But also that some related subjects are sometimes necessary to follow higher studies in a discipline.
Depending on the discipline, the scientific tracks lead to jobs in all sectors of the industry (aeronautics, pharmacy, agribusiness) and within various services (production, research and development …). Local and regional authorities can also recruit advisers, who are less operational and who have more of an administrative dimension. Still in the public service, you can also pass open National Education competitions to master’s degree holders.
Science has a future
Among the particularly promising areas, Pascal Sainrat mentions ” the computer science where the needs of the companies remain very important, but also the mathematics: besides the deficit of teachers in this discipline, the maths for the industry have been growing for a few years. Being able to model physical phenomena makes it possible, for example, to study satellite constellations “, explains the teacher.
